From an Inquisitive Mind

Global Warming is a Natural Occurrence.

Now we are finally clueing in to what the scientific community has been warning us about for decades. Global warming is happening. It is part of the natural cycles of this planet. The problem is, we have accelerated this process with our emissions from fossil fuel. But alas, the scientific community was not listened to.

The disturbing thought here is, it took an economist who crunched the numbers and figured out what it would cost financially if we did nothing about global warming. The financial figure is very high. The mainstream all of a sudden were frightened with these numbers. And only then, with the threat of businesses, people and countries losing money, did global warming become a major issue to the mainstream. Is this proof money makes the world go round?

I am somewhat dismayed that money takes precedence over the health of our planet and its inhabitants. That is how it seems to me.

Now we are at the point where it is going to come with great cost financially whether something is done about the excess CO2 in our atmosphere, or not. (It is the build up of mainly carbon dioxide in the upper stratosphere that is causing the grief.) Carbon dioxide is a by product of combustion, and breathing, and at natural levels is actually beneficial.

The other disturbing thought is the trees on our planet have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide in the photo synthesis process. (Photo synthesis is the production of glucose in plant life from the absorption of sunlight, carbon dioxide and water.) And guess what? the by product of this synthesis is oxygen.

So what are we doing? We are cutting more and more trees and decimating our forests. Now even Canada's boreal forest is disappearing to feed our ravenous appetite to consume.

The Western World is in a quandary now to try and figure out what to do. Whatever we do, (and each and every one of us have to act.) it will come at great cost, financially, our comforts will be compromised, economies will wobble and businesses and people will suffer.

The majority of us as inhabitants of this planet, seem to have the urge to consume everything within our reach, We have dug into the earth, dredged the bottom of oceans, raped the forests, and now there is talk about going to other planets and raping them. Seems like we have just about consumed this planet.

Gajillions of dollars are being spent to develop new technologies to help deal with the problem. There we go, consuming again!

Think about this. Why don't we just stop consuming, or at least slow down to the point where we can find a reasonable balance. There is a growing movement where the desire to go off grid and get back to basics and be sustainable is desired. It does take lifestyle adjustments, but it is worth it. If you want to renovate or build your home, research into a more enviro-friendly way to do this, and get rid of that lawn. Revert the area back to its natural state.

The problem here is the vast majority of businesses survive on the concept of consumerism, including this one. Never the less it must be done.

A couple of weeks ago some of the main oil companies released their quarterly numbers and the profits were in the tens of billions of dollars. That is only three months. Big oil is actually quite intelligent, they know they have had their heyday, and they are on their way out, so they are trying to eek every dollar out of us while they still can. And it is working, we are using more and more oil at higher and higher prices. Addiction can be a tough thing to break.

Bottom line is, the Laws of Supply and Demand are valid here. If we continue to create the demand, the prices will continue to go up, and we will continue to decimate Mother Earth

June 16, 2008.

It has been almost a year since I last made an entry into this site. I did not lose interest, that is just how it is. We seem to have less and less time to do things for our heart and soul. And if we do find time, it is just a "quicky", so to speak.

It has been about a year and a half since the economist I talked about above did his number crunching about global warming. A lot of people got the message, but I feel most people still do not know how to go about being sustainable and green.

October 6, 2009.

It seems now that everybody is trying to out green one another. From governments to big business. It is the lure of the dollar that is bringing a lot of people on the bandwagon.

I think two terms being used in over abundance and out of context are "green and sustainability" What do they really mean? To be continued
