About Company

New Energy Electrics was incorporated in 2002 with the commitment to promote renewable energies and a sustainable lifestyle.

My background

I grew up in the west side of Toronto near the shores of Lake Ontario in what was then called the Village of Long Branch. Long branch still exists today only it has become part Etobicoke, which has since joined in with the Mega City of Toronto. That is progress.... from a cozy little community to a major metropolis.

It was during my later years of elementary school when I became fascinated with electricity and electronics. This was in the days when you could still find vacuum tubes in radios and televisions. I started building a test bench when I was fourteen and at fifteen I had built my first phonograph into the base of an old swivel chair.

In high school I skipped over home economics for courses in technology and trades. I achieved top grades in these classes all the way through high school, my main interest being in electricity and electronics.

After high school I had an opportunity for an electrical apprenticeship, which I eagerly accepted, and spent the majority of my apprenticeship on unionized construction of a nuclear power facility in my home province of Ontario. Here I became very aware of the complexities and risk involved in the nuclear industry and realized this was not the industry for me.

Upon completion of my apprenticeship I enrolled in an industrial electronics course at George Brown College and also engaged in an electronic control course through correspondence. These courses were an excellent compliment to my inter-provincial trade certificate as an electrician for the province of Ontario. I then migrated to the west coast in 1979.

I worked at a local ski area as an industrial electrician and had great opportunities to develop my analytical and troubleshooting skills working with tramways, chair lifts and snowmaking processes, which also nourished my creative abilities. I have created many devices from power supplies to solid-state motor controllers. Working in an outdoor environment complemented my love for nature, and when I looked down at Vancouver from the top of the North Shore Mountains, (where I worked and lived for many years.) I observed daily the ever thickening purple haze that our dependence on fossil fuels has created.

In 1992 I enrolled in “Advanced Industrial Computing” at British Columbia Institute of Technology. At that time I broke away from the ski industry and did ample research on alternative energies and products. Though the technologies were there they did not catch the interest of the consumer, as electricity was still relatively cheap. I spent a year and a half in the forest industry working with automation and pollution control but my love for the outdoors drew me back to the Mountains.

In 2001 I wanted to diversify my skills and earned a certificate in Business and Technical Writing from Vancouver Community College. In May of 2002 I again left the ski industry and embarked on a way to make a living doing what I loved and believed in.

In November 2002, I acquired my BC trade qualification as an electrician and January 2003 wrote an exam, which qualified me as Field Safety Representative Class A for the Province of British Columbia. This then paved the way to acquire my Electrical Contractors License.

I created New Energy Electrics to do my part in preserving the environment through innovative ways to manage our energy needs while utilizing renewable energy resources.
